Captain Paul R. Kavanagh joined the Canadian Armed Forces in March 2014. He began his military career as a Reserve Force non-commissioned member before earning a commission through the Regular Officer Training Plan at The Royal Military College of Canada. After graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration, he completed infantry officer training at the Canadian Army's Combat Training Centre, where he qualified as both a dismounted and mechanized infantry platoon commander.
In 2019, Captain Kavanagh was posted to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (2 RCR), where he served as a Platoon Commander in India, Juliet, and Hotel Company. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he deployed to the Middle East on Operation IMPACT, gaining valuable experience in a multinational operational environment. Subsequent postings to the Canadian Army Tactics School and with The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) further broadened his professional development.
Drawing on his military service, business education, and passion for personal finance, Captain Kavanagh wrote this book with one simple objective: to help fellow Canadians—particularly members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families—build stronger financial foundations for the future.
